What Is AFROVOCATIVE?
As the creator of AFROVOCATIVE, I was in search of seeing images of myself in a positve light outside of the natural hair community. I had followed countless blogs and innovative black women through social media, but I wanted something more tailored to who I was as a black individual. I knew i wanted to highlight the newest talent, tell stories about my everyday life, provoke minds and entertain readers. Inspired by the My Black Is Beautiful campaign, I began using my photography skills as a way to encourage and showcase ladies of color on my college campus, but I desired to reach more people by providing entertainment and my own opinion as a minority.

An individual promoting social awareness and provoking the conscious with an emphasis on afro-culture or afrocentrism.
Instead of being the exception, I wanted to be the new rule; AFROvocative began merely as a tumblr blog, but my vision is to develope a lifelong brand promoting a better insight to women of color.

Behind The Pen & Lens: Tyeshea aka Ohtwiddlesticks
While I might be a newcomer to the blogging world, i'm no stranger to an audience. I developed a passion for literature and performing arts at a young age. Between Ballet classes and trips to the school library, I used both hobbies as an outlet to express myself. My unique voice as a story-teller coupled with my love of entertainment gave me aspirations of working in film, but not before I embraced my talent as a dancer. At age 13 I became a self-taught hip hop and freeestyle battle dancer, eventually landing a scholarship at Debbie Allen's Dance Academy Hip Hop Intensive for three consecutive years begining in 2009. I've learned from top choreographers accredited to working on countless music videos, film, and major tours.
My desire to create a story without words manifested in my ability to dance, and take photos. At age 21, I began working as a freelance photographer on campus, leading to the developement of my photography brand, Framed Red Photography. As I continue to build my crafts, I want to connect with my community and uplift in all ways. My mantra as a photographer remains, "I can make you look good if you let me."
